This site is one person writing to fewer than a hundred people. It records more about your reading than most sites you'll visit, and I'd rather say so plainly than bury it.
What I record
When you open something here, the site writes a line in its own log:
- which piece, and when
- how long the page was actually in front of you, and how far you scrolled
- whether you copied text from it
- your IP address
- your browser and device — the user-agent string, window size, time zone, language
- your location, worked out from that IP: country, region, and where available, city
If you're signed in, all of it is attached to your email address. So yes: I can see that you read a particular letter, at what time, from where, on what device, and for how long.
Why
The writing here is mine. Some of it consists of letters written to one specific person, shared with them and no one else. Knowing whether a letter was read — and whether it stayed where I sent it — is the whole reason this log exists. It is also how I protect work that isn't published anywhere else.
Where it goes
Nowhere. There is no third-party analytics here — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no PostHog, no advertising or tracking scripts. Your reading log is a table in the same database as the writing, on a machine I rent in Canada, and your IP is resolved to a location using a local lookup rather than by handing your address to an outside service. I don't sell it, share it, or hand it to anyone.
Marking
Pieces shared privately may carry a faint marking unique to the reader they were shared with, so that if one travels further than intended I can tell where it went. It doesn't stop anyone from copying anything, and it isn't meant to — it's a record, not a lock.
Email and sign-in
Signing in sends a link to your email. Delivery goes through Resend, a provider in the United States, so your email address passes through their systems. The writing itself never does — private pieces are never sent by email, only a plain link back here.

Under Canadian privacy law you can ask me what I hold about you, and I'll tell you. You can leave any audience yourself from your account page, at any time.
To have your account removed altogether — your email and everything recorded about your reading — write to me from the contact page. There's no self-serve delete button; I handle removals myself, and I'll confirm when it's done.
